We have the most extensive expertise and experience of any Australian law firm on advising Chinese enterprises on their mining projects in Australia. We have been the lead lawyers for two out of the only three major iron ore operating joint ventures in Australia for China: the AUD$420 million Channar Joint Venture between Hamersley Iron and Sinosteel (this project was China’s first overseas project and is regarded as the ‘model’ joint venture for Chinese projects in Australia) and the AUD$11 billion Wheelarra Joint Venture between BHP and four of China’s largest steel mills.
Our firm was awarded the 2005 Australasian Energy and Resources Deal of the Year Award by the Australasian Legal Magazine for representing the Chinese steel mills on the BHP Wheelarra project.
